Dear Parishioners:
Happy Easter!
This morning, many families will hunt for brightly colored eggs hidden in houses and gardens. Children will rejoice when they find the eggs and baskets filled with candy and gifts. It is a morning of searching and finding.
Easter is a season of searching and finding. The Gospels record numerous people going in the tomb looking for Jesus. He isn’t there. He is risen! They went looking for His body and found the truth of the resurrection. It wasn’t what they were looking for, but it is what they needed.
They found the truth in an empty tomb, in folded burial garments, in messages from angels. Eventually, they encounter the truth in the presence of the risen Lord. They sought the truth and they found it.
This season of Easter, we too seek the risen Lord. Let us look for His presence in scripture, the sacraments, and the gifts of creation. Scripture records how the disciples and witnesses were surprised when they encountered the resurrected Jesus. He came to them in unexpected times and places. He will surprise us as well if we take the time to seek Him.
In Christ,
Fr. Scott
